your comment about RSS is interesting. RSS was not as big a few years back when I was looking for jobs, so searching was a huge chore. I envy your ability to just sit back and let the job announcements come to you (within reason).

I suspect The Backyardigans could be a shelved Government project for mind control. The colors, music and script have things for all ages, and combine them in a way I haven’t seen before.

I now put The Backyardigans on even though my little treasure wants Little Einsteins!

hey, i just found your blog via facebook. this is that college friend of yours who is also a librarian. i wanted to let you know that i have a blog too, which is totally unrelated to work: infogluttony dot wordpress dot com.

i don’t like to throw my name around because i like to keep my online and real identities as separated as possible. this is approaching the fine line between caution and paranoia, but i guess i’d like to keep my dissident musings between me and the department of homeland security.

ok, on to this post, which was very good. the kindle is a great idea that will hopefully improve over time. not only is there the innate pleasure of handling a newspaper, but also what constitutes ownership in the digital age? it’s like as we move to a digital culture we’re moving to perpetual licensing: what lawrence lessig calls “a permission culture.” that stinks, doesn’t it.

personally speaking, i’m one of the few who “can deny the pleasure to be derived from spreading a newspaper on the kitchen table and leisurely flipping through the pages with one’s morning coffee.” i find newspapers unwieldy instruments of knowledge. give me a PDA anyday. i’m sure the commuter sitting next to me on the train would agree, since i don’t clothesline him as i thrust open Section A.
